Music Support is a charity founded in 2016 by people from within the music industry. Our mission is to provide help and support to peers who work in music and live events affected by mental ill-health and/or addiction and to promote early intervention through support services, education, and workshops.

Music Support, now 7 years old is a registered charity providing help, and support to those in the music industry affected by emotional, mental, and behavioural health issues and their families, and providing crucial training to facilitate awareness and prevention.

Why are Music Support looking for a new CEO?

"Due to the imminent departure of our much-loved CEO to pursue a full-time career in psychotherapy, we are now seeking an ambitious, proactive, and forward-thinking CEO to ensure the optimal running of the Charity's already substantial existing services, and to lead it into the next phase of growth and development."

Reporting to the Board of Trustees, this role requires a breadth of skills and experience at an organisational, strategic and operational level.

You will be extremely fiscally responsible having managed large complex budgets, with an innate understanding of cashflows. With the Finance and Governance Committee, you will ensure this medium-sized charity's smooth and responsible financial operation.

You will oversee all the charity's operations, through internal employees and external providers. You will also be directly responsible for Fundraising - from identification and solicitation through to stewardship, and music industry relations.

You will also be responsible, along with the Board of Trustees, for ensuring continuous compliance with the Charities Commission, governance, and policies in all areas, including Music Support's therapeutic and clinical signposting services.

This is a very hands-on role as well as a strategic one - so applicants must be willing to work accordingly.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake all tasks necessary to achieve the Charity's mission statement and charitable objectives achieving quantitative and qualitative targets and KPI's in these areas.

  • Manage staff, outside consultants and oversee day-to-day operations.

  • Manage all financial matters in order to maintain the financial wellbeing of the charity and develop the financial growth planning and strategy.

  • Negotiate financial terms with all suppliers and consultants.

  • Participate in identifying and developing new revenue streams and fundraising opportunities, preparing grant and funding applications.

  • Ensure the charity remains compliant with all requirements of the Charities Commission, Medical and Therapeutic worlds and other governing bodies including associations.

  • Oversee and maintain the excellence of the charity's core services and develop additional services as part of the growth strategy.

  • Maintain very strong relationships across the Music Industry, with regular updates and meetings, and develop new ones, maximising the fundraising and awareness building opportunities therein.

  • Ensure that Music Support becomes known to all members of the Music Industry.

  • Oversee and maximise all fundraising activity and implement new activity.

  • Work closely with all boards and advisory committees and implement new initiatives as approved by the trustees.

  • Oversight of Salesforce CRM implementation and training new staff in how to use it - includes integration of online forms for data capture, and management dashboards.

  • Present progress and suggestions to the Trustees in a clear and concise manner on a regular basis.

  • Lead the team positively and decisively, always maintaining the core values and driving ethos and principle that Music Support was founded on. Keep the spirit of Music Support alive throughout all growth.

  • Occasionally provide helpline or Festival cover and support (training provided).


Requirements
Competencies/ Skills / Knowledge / Experience

  • Over 5 years in a Senior Management Position in a relevant sector with evidence-based and measurable positive results.

  • Proven budget management experience up to £1M

  • Strong leadership and motivational skills.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Fluent in verbal and written English

  • Salesforce CRM preferable but not essential

  • Must have demonstrated the ability to effectively manage major client relationships, manage and develop key employees, create marketing materials, and perform presentations, analyze numbers, and be pro-active, flexible and innovative.

  • Experience in addiction and/or mental health sector preferable

  • Experience in the Music Industry preferable.

  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations, urgent activities, and crisis management.

  • The ability to distinguish between business ethics and medical ethics, always remembering that Music Support deals with human lives and human suffering.

  • For the right person, who may not have all these skills, the Board is willing to look at recruiting additional Trustees to provide support in these areas.
