JUNIOR COMMERCIAL ANALYST - PUBLISHING - LONDON

Amazing opportunity for a Junior Commercial Analyst to become a key member within a small Commercial Finance team embedded within one of the largest global publishing companies. This role will provide study support as well as many other fantastic benefits. This team has responsibility for preparation of investment cases for acquisitions, profitability reviews, annual budget, month end analysis and reporting, regular forecasting, long term planning and ad hoc reporting.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Preparation of annual budget and monthly forecasts at a detailed title level in Hyperion Planning for submission to our US parent company. Focus on accuracy including publication dates, print cost, author advances, sales units, discounts and other key drivers of profitability.

  • Timely production of departmental P&Ls and detailed sales and title profitability reports in order to ensure completeness and accuracy of forecast and budget data.

  • Collaborate with non-financial departments (e.g. editorial, sales, production and marketing) to compile relevant information for budget and forecast

  • Take personal ownership for timely and accurate production of reporting packs for the Commercial Director to present to UK exec members including the CFO and CEO.

  • Review and report on previous published book performance to assist with influencing decisions for future acquisitions

  • Complete month end tasks which feed into Group reporting including but not limited to, plant accruals, cost centre accruals, retro provisions and unearned provisions, ensuring that a database for monitoring these is properly maintained

  • Prepare month end analysis of actual performance of the divisions (and departments within) against forecast and budget

  • Ownership of reports for monthly divisional executive meetings, including month end commercial pack

SKILLS:

  • 1-2 years experience within a finance environment.

  • Commitment to gaining an ACCA/CIMA qualification

  • Ability to communicate complex financial information to non-financial staff - both written and verbal.

  • Highly organised and able to juggle several different projects at once

  • High level of attention to detail

  • Analytical skills to include investigation and explanation of the causes of variances.

  • Advanced level Excel

  • Demonstrable love of and interest in books and publishing.

  • Proactive approach to problem solving

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
